My soaps are made from a combination of olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil, hemp seed oil, rice bran oil, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil and shea butter. I dry my own calendula petals and citrus peels and use natural exfoliants such as pumice and poppy seeds. I use only quality essential oils so I can bring you the best possible all natural soaps.
Do your soaps contain lye?
Yes, my soaps are made using lye (caustic soda and water) as all cold process soaps are. However, the amounts of lye and oils are carefully calculated to ensure there is no lye left in the final product. My soaps are very soft and gentle on your skin.
Why are handmade soaps better?
The ingredients, the skill and care taken by the soap maker and the rich glycerin that has been left in the soap make them special. Handmade soaps are better because all the goodness is left in and all the oils and butters are chosen for their skin-nourishing qualities. Artisan soap makers are passionate about their products and they love what they do - that passion is passed onto you through their beautiful soap.
How should I take care of my soaps?
All my soaps are cured for a minimum of four weeks, which means they have been given the chance to harden, so they last much longer. The best way to care for your soap is to use a soap dish to ensure your soap stays dry between uses. If you’re not going to use your soap straight away, store it in a cool place out of direct sunlight. Do not store your soaps in an airtight container as they need to breathe.
I am allergic to soap . . .
Many people who are sensitive to commercial soaps find that they can use and enjoy handmade soap. I do have an unscented range specifically for people with sensitivities. Some of my products are made using oils from nuts, so please read the ingredients list carefully and just like any new product you try, if you have any problems at all, immediately discontinue use.
What about sustainability?
My soaps are handmade in small batches and I support local markets and events wherever possible. I use only natural ingredients in my soaps and bath products and aim to keep things simple without adding unnecessary ingredients. We try to keep our use of plastic to a minimum however, the plastic containers that we do use are manufactured locally in Melbourne. We encourage the reuse of containers and are happy to refill or recycle at your request. Our hamper boxes are also made from recycled paper.
